Football schedule presents challenge to 2013 Wildcats

It could be said that a new era begins in District 8-AAA when the high school football season kicks off Aug. 23. With Coffee County back in the district and multiple changes in non-district opponents, it certainly feels like that for the Tullahoma Wildcats.

The Cats are coming off a 7-5 season that saw them finish second to Columbia in the district and advance to the second round of the playoffs. After beating White County 34-13 in the first round, the Cats ran into eventual state runner-up Columbia and fell 47-24 to the Lions in round two.

The Lady Cats return almost a dozen players who logged significant minutes last year, including leading scorers Erin Layne and Kentoria Alexander, who each averaged close to 12 points per game.

Washed out district tournaments push schedules forward

District 8-AAA tournaments in baseball, softball and soccer were unable to play any games this weekend, forcing schedules to be moved forward a day and pushing Tullahoma’s scheduled games forward as well.

The Wildcat baseball team advanced into the winner’s final of the District 8-AAA  tournament with a 4-1 win over Lawrence County Friday night. The Cats will face Columbia on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for a spot in the championship game  in Shelbyville, which is now scheduled for Thursday  at 4.

Saturday’s scheduled elimination baseball games featuring Lincoln County vs. Lawrence County and Shelbyville vs. Franklin County are now scheduled to be played in Shelbyville Monday.

The Lady Cat softball team opened tournament play falling 1-0 to Franklin County on Thursday. Tullahoma will face Columbia, a team it swept during the regular season, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Lady Cats Field behind East Middle School. Franklin County will play at Lincoln County Monday, then the tournament moves to Tullahoma.

First-round soccer matches scheduled for Saturday will be played instead on Monday. It has not yet been announced if Tuesday’s second round will be bumped forward a day as well. Tullahoma is scheduled to host the Lincoln County/Shelbyville winner at 7 p.m. behind East.
